Who are we?Colchester Speakers Club is a member of the
Association of Speakers Clubs
and has been helping people in Colchester and the surrounding area to
achieve speaking confidence since 1986.
There are over 120 Speakers Clubs across the UK.
Why do people join Speakers Clubs?
People join
speakers clubs because they either are or have been asked to deliver
speeches or presentations and feel the need to improve their skills in
doing so.
Most of us can
expect to be asked to deliver a speech at some time in our lives.
It may be a presentation for a job interview, a wedding speech or simply
saying a few words to wish a colleague well. Everyone wants to
make a good job of it but many people suffer from intense anxiety at the
prospect of standing up and speaking in front of other people -
palpitations, feeling tongue
tied, dry mouthed and shaky are not uncommon sensations!
Fear of Public Speaking provokes higher anxiety in
more people than almost anything else including divorce and moving
house.
Joining a Speaking
Club can help you to overcome your anxieties and boost your confidence
to help you become an effective speaker.
What does
Colchester Speakers Club aim to do?
Our aim at Colchester Speakers Club is to:
·
help people improve
their presentation and communication skills
·
overcome their fear
of speaking in front of an audience
·
make starting and
progressing for new members as quick and as easy as possible
How do we do it?
We provide a
mutually supportive environment where members can practice their
speeches and develop their skills in a friendly and enjoyable
atmosphere. You can follow a step-by-step programme that will help
build your confidence and unlock your potential – and you can work at
your own pace, in your own time.
How to make a start
Come and join us and see for yourself. Don't worry, you won't be
expected to stand up and speak on your first visit (unless you have a
burning desire to do so). Just come and see what we do, have a
chat with other members, then sit back and simply watch, listen and
enjoy the evening.
Visitors are welcome to participate in club
activities but are never put under pressure to do so and there is no
charge to visit the club.
We meet on the Second Tuesday of each Month in the
Conservative Club and a full list of
forthcoming dates can be found Here
